Dear Southern Boone School District Families,
As we transition into summer break, several major construction and facility improvement projects will be taking place at Southern Boone High School over the next few months. These projects are part of the district’s continued efforts to improve facilities, enhance safety, and support students and staff for years to come.
Due to the amount of work occurring simultaneously on campus, there will be important changes to building access, parking, traffic flow, and pedestrian routes throughout the summer.
Below is an overview of the summer projects and important access information for anyone visiting the high school campus.
Construction & Facility Improvement Projects
Vo-Ag Wing Project
Construction work will continue this summer on the new Vocational Agriculture wing located on the north side of the high school building. The project remains on schedule and will continue throughout the summer months.
High School HVAC Project
A major HVAC improvement project is taking place this summer, with new heating and cooling systems being installed in more than half of the high school building. This work is part of a multi-phase effort to improve comfort, efficiency, and reliability throughout the facility.
Baseball & Softball Complex Improvements
Work will also take place at the baseball and softball fields this summer, including:
• Replacing existing gravel areas with concrete
• Construction of a new retaining wall where the bleachers are located
Southeast Parking Lot Replacement
Beginning June 1st, the southeast parking lot near the football/soccer stadium will be closed for a full replacement project. The current lot will be removed and replaced with a new concrete parking lot.
It is important to note that parking around the outdoor stadium will remain available for the Southern Boone Girls Soccer Class 2 Quarterfinal game on Saturday, May 30th. Construction on the southeast parking lot replacement project will not begin until after the event concludes, allowing normal access and parking for fans attending the game.
Summer Road & Entrance Closures
Because construction will be occurring on both the north and south sides behind the high school building, several areas of campus will be closed throughout the summer, including:
• The main high school entrance
• Roads behind the high school
• The parking lot between the high school and the outdoor stadium
Parking, Drop-Off & Pick-Up Information
During summer construction, all parking, drop-off, and pick-up activities must take place in the front high school commons parking lot and drive area located on the west side of the building.
To help ensure safety around active construction zones:
• Vehicle traffic will not be permitted behind the building
• All visitors must enter through the Front (west) Commons entrance
• Visitors needing access to the gym, auditorium, or weight room should enter through the commons and walk through the building
Access to Football/Soccer Stadium, Track, Baseball/Softball Facilities, Hitting Facility & Outdoor Locker Rooms
Anyone needing access to athletic facilities this summer should follow the route below:
Park in the Front Commons parking lot
Enter through the Front Commons doors
Walk through the commons area
Proceed through the gymnasium
Exit through the North Weight Room doors
Cross the parking lot between the weight room and hitting facility
Enter through either the single gate near the hitting facility, or thee main double gate into the stadium
When leaving, visitors should follow the same route back to the Front Commons parking lot for pick-up or departure.
Due to the extensive construction and facility projects taking place this summer, Southern Boone High School office staff and administration will temporarily relocate to the middle school building during the summer months.
Families and community members can still contact the high school office by calling 573-657-2144, and staff will continue assisting with questions, registration needs, and other support throughout the summer.
We appreciate everyone’s patience, flexibility, and cooperation throughout these summer projects. These improvements represent a significant investment in our facilities and will benefit students, staff, and the community for many years to come.
Additional updates and reminders will be shared throughout the summer as projects progress.
Thank you, and have a great summer!
Yours in Education,
Dr. Tim Roth
School Superintendent
