Summer has been a busy season on the Southern Boone High School campus as several major construction and facility improvement projects continue to make significant progress. These investments are part of the district's ongoing commitment to providing modern, safe, and engaging learning environments for students while enhancing campus facilities for staff and visitors.
Vo-Ag Wing Addition
Construction continues on the new Vocational Agriculture wing located on the north side of the high school. Crews have made excellent progress throughout the summer as classrooms, lab spaces, and the shop area continue to take shape.
When complete, the addition will include:
Two vocational agriculture classrooms
A dedicated agriculture lab
A large shop area
Two new art classrooms
A new Family and Consumer Sciences classroom
The project is funded through the $11.6 million no-tax-rate-increase bond issue approved by voters in April 2024 and remains on schedule for completion before the start of the 2026-2027 school year.
High School HVAC Improvements
A major HVAC renovation is also underway inside the high school. Throughout more than half of the building, crews are replacing aging heating and cooling equipment, piping, lighting, and ceiling systems.
Before students return in August, these areas will feature:
New heating and cooling systems
Updated piping
Energy-efficient LED lighting
New ceiling tiles
These improvements will provide greater comfort, improved energy efficiency, and increased reliability for years to come. This project is also funded through the April 2024 voter-approved no-tax-rate-increase bond issue.
Baseball & Softball Complex Improvements
Work continues around the baseball and softball complex with several upgrades designed to improve safety, accessibility, and the overall appearance of the facilities.
Improvements include:
Replacing gravel areas with concrete walkways
Expanding the lower-level spectator viewing area around the bleachers
Constructing a decorative block retaining wall
These enhancements are funded through the April 2024 no-tax-rate-increase bond issue and will provide a better experience for student-athletes, families, and visitors.
Southeast Parking Lot Replacement
Construction is also progressing on the complete replacement of the southeast parking lot near the outdoor stadium. The existing asphalt lot has been removed, and crews are preparing the site for a new concrete parking lot.
The project includes:
A durable concrete parking lot
More than 40 additional parking spaces
Improved traffic flow and long-term durability
This project is funded through the $4 million no-tax-rate-increase bond issue approved by voters in April 2026.
Campus Access Reminder
For the safety of students, staff, and visitors, construction areas remain closed throughout the summer. The Front Commons entrance and parking lot on the west side of the high school continue to be the only public access point to campus.
We appreciate everyone's patience and cooperation as these important improvements continue. We look forward to welcoming students back this fall to enhanced learning spaces and upgraded campus facilities.
