Please join us in welcoming Alex Shaffer to the Southern Boone School District! Alex will serve as a reading interventionist at Southern Boone Middle School and brings nine years of experience in education to the new role.
Alex graduated from Missouri State University and has taught students in kindergarten through third grade. After discovering a passion for literacy and reading instruction, Alex earned a master’s degree in Reading from William Woods University and a Special Reading Certification from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
Alex is excited to join a community that provides positive opportunities for students and staff while demonstrating kindness and support for others.
Outside of school, Alex enjoys spending time with family, reading and taking walks. Alex’s son will begin first grade at Southern Boone Primary School this year.

On Thursday, the Southern Boone School District welcomed teachers and staff back for our annual All-Staff Drive-Thru Luncheon! It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the dedicated employees who make Southern Boone a great place for students to learn, grow and succeed.

Collaborate with directors and student performers to create and teach engaging choreography while helping students strengthen their theatrical performance skills.
🎯 Assistant Trap Shooting Coach
Support the head coach by providing instruction, mentorship, and encouragement while promoting safety, sportsmanship, confidence, and skill development.

Lydia earned her bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Illinois State University in 2019 and her master’s degree in Music Education from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 2026. She has taught band to students in grades 6–12 for four and a half years and at the collegiate level for two years.
Lydia is excited to work with Southern Boone’s students, staff and community. “I’m looking forward to providing the community with amazing music!”
Lydia’s husband, Manny, is also a band director. Together, they have a 7-year-old guinea pig named Paco. In their free time, they enjoy staying active, cooking, binge-watching shows and opening Pokémon card packs.

Please join us in welcoming Megan Thompson to the Southern Boone School District! Megan will begin her first year as a full-time classroom teacher, teaching seventh and eighth grade math at Southern Boone Middle School.
Megan graduated from the University of Missouri–St. Louis in December 2025 with a bachelor’s degree in Middle School Mathematics Education and is currently pursuing her master’s degree. This past spring, she served as a long-term substitute teaching eighth-grade math, Algebra and Geometry.
Megan has also worked in education through substitute teaching, dance instruction and leading LEGO-based summer camps. “I can’t wait to get to know my students, help them grow in math and build relationships with families and staff.”
Outside of school, Megan enjoys dancing and recently stepped away from teaching dance after eight years. She also enjoys spending time with family and friends, hanging out with her dogs and doing anything creative.

Thank you to the Boone County Sheriff’s Office for leading Active Threat Response Training today for teachers and staff from all four Southern Boone schools.
This important training provided staff with strategies and information to help them respond confidently during an emergency. We appreciate the Sheriff’s Office for sharing their time and expertise and for their continued partnership in helping keep our students, staff and schools safe.
