Chase earned his undergraduate degree in History Education from Missouri State University in Springfield and is beginning his first year of teaching.
Outside of the classroom, Chase enjoys running and has set a long-term goal of completing a half-marathon. He’s also a proud plant enthusiast with a growing collection of houseplants that he calls his “pride and joy.” 🌿🏃

📚 Meet Cassandra Gazaway – 6th Grade Math and Science Teacher
📍 Southern Boone Middle School
We’re excited to welcome Cassandra Gazaway to the Southern Boone Middle School team as our new 6th Grade Math and Science Teacher!
Cassandra brings six years of teaching experience, including three years as a 4th–6th grade science teacher in the La Monte School District, two years teaching 3rd grade at Callaway Hills in the Jefferson City School District, and one year teaching 5th grade at Callaway Hills.
She and her husband, Blake, have been married for nearly 14 years and have a daughter, Alyssa, who will be a 4th grader at Southern Boone Elementary. The Gazaway family has lived in Ashland for three years and loves the small-town community. You’ll often find Cassandra camping and fishing with her family or cheering at Southern Boone sporting events — where Blake serves as the play-by-play broadcaster for the Show-Me Sports Network.
Cassandra shared, “I’m thrilled to be joining the Southern Boone School District family. I’ve always wanted to live and work in a small town, and over the past couple of years, I’ve seen firsthand what an incredible place this is. Southern Boone has truly welcomed us and made us feel at home, and I can’t wait to be part of this amazing district.”

We’re excited to welcome Roxanne Helmka to the Southern Boone Primary School team as our new Learning Garden Aide!
Roxanne earned her Bachelor of Science in Nutritional Sciences from the University of Missouri and is stepping into her first official year in education, after previously volunteering in the district.
She and her husband have two children who both attend Southern Boone. Outside of work, Roxanne enjoys fishing, gardening, exploring nature, traveling, hiking, working out, and thrifting. 🪴🚶♀️🌊
Passionate about nutrition and fitness, Roxanne is eager to share her knowledge with students through the incredible opportunities offered by the Learning Garden. She shared, “Our outdoor classroom is a magical space to promote free exploration, spark curiosity, and encourage learning. I love when a student is brave and tries a new food they helped grow — and likes it! How rewarding!”

Southern Boone High School's Vo-Ag teacher, Rebekah Hammett, received the Heart of Missouri/Missouri Teacher Development System Regional Teacher of the Year Award on Monday evening! DESE will announce the semi-finalists for the 2026 Missouri Teacher of the Year award later this month. Congratulations, Mrs. Hammett!

MacKenzie is a proud Southern Boone graduate and returns to her hometown after earning her Associate’s Degree from MACC in 2021 and her Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture Education – Teacher Certification from Mizzou in 2024. 🎓
She’s entering her second year of teaching, having previously taught and served as FFA Advisor at Kearney High School. MacKenzie also completed her student teaching at Bolivar High School.
Outside of the classroom, MacKenzie loves spending time outdoors — camping, hiking, and reading are some of her favorite hobbies. She’s also a proud dog mom to Goose, a miniature dachshund, and Gunner, a chocolate lab. 🐶🐾
